Field Notes: The village is home to approximately 5000 people. A majority are unemployed. Many live in tin shacks, some have low cost government housing. The few people who are employed in the city of Mafikeng have chosen to live in the village and have built some comfortable homes.
Country Notes: South Africa is the country on the Southern most tip of Africa. The country has a population of about 45 million people. There are eleven ethnic groups each with their own language. Nine of these are traditional African languages and two are of European descent. South Africa has the largest number of people infected with HIV in the world. Unemployment reports range from 25-42%.

The number of the children who come to the learning center is now consistent, we always have over 80 kids attending. We are aiming for 150 kids in the next three months. We also led an Orphan Intervention Program with 20 kids in the village and it went very well.

Emisang's family lost their baby, and they did not have the money for a burial. Our Orchard: Africa staff helped them by asking one of the local funeral parlor to help. They were able to bury their child. The family was very happy and thankful for the support they received during their time of loss.

We had a successful Easter conference for all of our Fountain of Hope Community Churches (FOHCC). We had over 150 people attending! Children's church services were also full. At our closing service, we honored four of the elderly ladies in the church by giving them gifts and praying for them.

Two children named Msego and Kelebogileto were accepted at the community school after our innitiative of involving the Department of Social Welfare and Home Affairs. These children did not have the necessary documents, which would qualify them for school. We also gave them some of the required books, pencils, and some colouring pens that the American groups brought last time they came.

We have more kids coming to our center this month. We have also introduced new programs at our learning center, the kids are responding very well.

This was a blessed month for our home based care program. The Resurection Lutheran Church gave blankets to our very sick patients. They were very happy and thankful. To someone who is poor, a new blanket is a big thing. Many do not have warm blankets. Those blankets are very special to them and when they see the blankets they will always remember that someone out there loves them.

One of our preschool students was taken from her home at night. The family called us and asked for help, so we called the police and assisted in serching for the child. She was found the next day about 10 km from our village. We thank God that the little girl was alive and well! The family was very happy for the help that we gave them.

The community of Top Village was helped in getting IDs and birth certificates. This will help them to apply for different government grants and that will enable them to get some income. Poverty and hunger will be reduced.

We have identified a preschool in Lonely Park Village (near Top Village). They have many kids but they do not have food and today, so we donated toys to the children and will continue to work with them and see who we can assist them further. The teachers were very happy to receive the gifts from Orchard: Africa.

The family of Kenosi is one of the poorest of the poor in Top Village, the house they live in is in a bad state. The children are sleeping on the floor without mattrasses. We gave them matrasses to sleep on and we took the two small children to our pre-school. We are still busy with getting birth certificates for the children so that they can be registered for goverment grants. They are the family we focus on this month.

All of the projects started well this year. We have a new learning center supervisor and she is doing a very good job.

The projects are really working. Top village is where it all started and we've seen a massive improvement in the village life. The church has grown and we are having a daily impact in the lives of our people. Thank you for your support!

Over 30 kids from the learning center have been coming to our church every Friday at our worship team practice. No one invited but them they just come and dance as the team is singing. The number is growing every week and they just enjoy being there. We are now using this opportunity to minister to them.
