POSTCARD FROM AFRICA —OCTOBER 2025

Every year, our team pauses from the rhythm of daily ministry to gather for a time of rest, renewal, and reconnection. This year’s staff retreat was no exception. It overflowed with laughter, learning, and moments of spiritual refreshing that will shape our service in the year ahead.

We began our time together with a series of meaningful sessions designed to draw us closer to God and to one another.  Many staff members described this as a “reset,” a space to breathe deeply and remember why we do what we do.

A special highlight of the retreat was the presence of our guest speakers from First Baptist Church of Glenarden. Their ministry to our team left us both challenged and uplifted, and we give thanks for our partnership and friendship.

Of course, no retreat is complete without a dose of fun and laughter. One afternoon found us on the mini-golf course and a walk on the beach. The next day, a pottery-painting excursion allowed our creative sides to shine.

Evenings were filled with games and good-natured competition. What started as a casual round of Uno quickly became the most spirited event of the retreat! The laughter echoed long after the last +4 card was played, reminding us that joy and community are essential parts of our work.

We are profoundly thankful to our Orchard Community whose support makes gatherings like this possible. Because of your kindness, our team could pause to reflect, recharge, and return to the field inspired and equipped. You make more than life changing programs and projects possible. You invest in the people who carry out the mission every day.
