POSTCARD FROM AFRICA
Across the North West Province, something beautiful is growing.
As part of Orchard: Africa’s vision to equip the local church, pastors and church agriculture champions have been trained in economic development and agripreneurship projects. The goal is simple but powerful - to help churches generate their own income so they can serve their communities sustainably, without being totally dependent on outside support.
After the training, each church champion selected up to ten community members and walked alongside them as they started or expanded home gardens. What began as practical instruction quickly became something deeper. Families who once had little interest in agriculture began cultivating their land with pride. Small backyard plots expanded. Vegetables flourished. Some harvest was sold for income; the rest nourished families at home.
Agripreneurship does more than grow food. It restores dignity, builds confidence, and provides a sense of purpose. To encourage excellence, each village hosted a friendly competition for the best home garden. The excitement was contagious. Gardeners worked diligently, improving crop quality and presentation. Pastors rallied their teams, hoping their community garden would represent the best in the province.
Selecting an overall winner was no easy task. The standard was remarkably high. Ultimately, Mr Mosiane from Matile Village was named the North West 2025/26 Agripreneur of the Year at a celebration held at the NW Impact Center. He received protective crop netting, quality tools, and seeds to further expand his garden.
Your support is helping churches move from dependency toward sustainability. Gardens are thriving. Families are eating. Small incomes are being earned.
The fruit is visible - and it is lasting.
